AfricanAmerican entrepreneurs Harold and Hilda Pierce founded Harold’s Chicken Shack in 1950 with their first small restaurant on 39th Street in Chicago.

With 66 years of success, Harold’s Chicken has expanded throughout the Chicago area, amassing dozens of locations in Illinois and beyond. Harold’s Chicken locations have been opened in Northwest Indiana, Detroit, Iowa, Milwaukee, Las Vegas, Madison (WI) and Dallas.

In June 2012, Harold’s expanded it’s brand to the vibrant city of Atlanta, Georgia, as “Harold’s Chicken & Ice Bar”. Harold’s Chicken & Ice Bar was the first Harold’s franchise to transition from the traditional, informal “Harold’s Chicken Shack” which served primarily takeout orders, to a more traditional sit-down, sports bar atmosphere with a full bar.

The overwhelming success of Harold’s Chicken & Ice Bar in Atlanta has served as the model for other similar locations that are now open in the city of Chicago (Harold’s Bar & Grill) and has opened the door for the California Flagship location on Hollywood Blvd in Los Angeles!

Regardless of the expansion from its birthplace, Harold’s Chicken has made it a point of emphasis to maintain that the 60year rich tradition of serving its delicious, Chicago style chicken & fish dinners, drizzled in its signature mild and hot sauces.
